Default All Breeds Sale at CQLX Gracemere Central Queensland saw top prices paid

A decision to add Brahman breeding as another feather in the cap of long time Charbray breeders, Carl Morawitz and Charlie McKinlay, Stewart Park, Comet, proved to be a wise choice this week when one of their young grey Brahman bulls topped the rescheduled two day February All Breeds Sale at CQLX Gracemere.

The 22 month old Stewart Park Kody 16th (IVF) (H) was secured for $21,000 in a hot bidding contest on day one of the sale by respected Central Queensland cattleman, Eric Nobbs, Lyndhurst Stud, Biloela.

The full Hudgins bull was sired by Elrose Kody Man (ET) (H) which Stewart Park Stud purchased in 2005 for $85,000 from Rodger and Lorena Jefferis, Elrose Stud, Cloncurry and out of El Ja Calamity Manso (ET) (H).

Mr McKinlay said the bull was only the fourth Brahman bull Stewart Park had sold through the sale ring from the elite sire.

Buyer Eric Nobbs, who describes himself as a sprightly "1917 calf", said the bull was "pretty handy".

"I look at a bull before I take any notice of the breeding, and it just so happened he had the breeding as well," Mr Nobbs said.

The day two top of $19,000 was hit when 28 month old Droughtmaster bull, Glenn Valley Federal (P) was bought by Keith and Barbara Mylrea, Sanoma, Gogango, from David and Alice Schloss, Glenn Valley Stud, Murgon.

The 850kg bull was by Glenlands Federation (P) and out of Fairhaven 05/6 (P).

Females topped at $8000 on day one when Gary Hiette, Barambah Brahmans, Wondai, snapped up the 25 month old grey Brahman heifer, Eureka Creek Carole (AI) (ET) (H), offered by Becky Wilson and family, Eureka Creek Brahmans, Monto.

Floods and associated damage to much of Central Queensland's road network prompted the two day sale to be rescheduled from February to March this year.

Selling agents: Elders and Landmark.
