Default KAGE Communication second edition Australian dance theatre company

Hello and welcome to the second edition of

As most of you reading should now know, KAGE is an Australian
dance-theatre company who create original works for presentation
which amuse, entice, enthrall and inspire audiences all over the

Last month KAGE presented excerpts from SUNDOWNER at Federation
Square as part of Alzheimer's Australia's public presentation for
Dementia Week and at the Abbotsford Convent for Victorian Seniors'
Week. The Company also completed a successful second creative
development period for LOOK RIGHT THROUGH ME. We were thrilled to see
a new work in the Melbourne Fringe Festival Nice Work If You Can Get
It featuring two of our 2009 KAGE COACH participants Josh Mitchell
and Adam Jackson. We are keeping busy as always and November will see
KAGE supporting four student secondments for the final rehearsal
stage of SUNDOWNER. We will also be opening up our office so you can
see what's goes on behind our door as part of the Abbotsford
Convent's Open Day.

KAGE Communication is a way for you to get to know everyone
contributing to KAGE and in the coming issues we will be introducing
you to our wonderful Board members as well as current key artists and
creative partners.

Please read on for more details or if this isn't your thing please

Convent Open Day

When we are not on the floor creating our physical work, we do
actually sit behind a computer in an office (yes even in a
dance-theatre company!). If you have ever wandered around the
Abbotsford Convent's hallways you may have seen our door before, but
on November 7 our door will be wide open! Come and meet us and
fellow organisations who make up the cultural hub that is the
Abbotsford Convent.

KAGE will also be screening excerpts of our work in Dorm 1, Rosina
Auditorium. See DVD's of our finished performances in the very place
where they were originally created.

If you have been following us on twitter you will know that we even
re-arranged our office and to a trip to IKEA especially for this

This Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Art into Sacred Heart

The Sacred Heart Building at the Abbotsford Convent is currently out
of bounds but in the lead up to Open Day (as mentioned above) the
tenants will be filling up the windows that look out onto the
courtyard with artwork. While KAGE can't properly present our live
performance art in a window we will be submitting photos taken of our
live performances.

Keep a look out for the door with the yellow safety tape on it.
That's our window.

Look Right Through Me

KAGE has just completed another development of one of our two new
shows that will premiere in 2011, LOOK RIGHT THROUGH ME.

We welcomed two new cast members and are currently working with
Michael Leunig on the creation of an original artwork for the

Director: Kate Denborough

Creative Collaborator: Michael Leunig

Dancers: Craig Bary, Tim Ohl, Cain Thompson, Gerard Van Dyck and
Fiona Cameron.

Sundowner Secondments

For the final development of SUNDOWNER KAGE is pleased to be offering
four secondment positions to final year dance students and recent

Tina Vendito, Sophia Kennedy, Roy Berkin and Jordine Cornish will
join us in the rehearsal room.

This is a rare opportunity to work with professional dancers, an
actor, a circus performer as well as the Tivoli Lovelies. These four
young artists are at the beginning of their creative careers and it
is a pleasure to welcome them into our creative process.

If you are interested in future secondment or directorial atttachment
opportunities you can contact Simone - , please
note that 2011 is already filling fast, so make sure you get in

Thanks to everyone who attended SUNDOWNER in the Studio as part of
the Victorian Seniors Festival and we hope you get to see the full
show in 2011. For photos please see out facebook page.

Get to know a KAGE Creative

This month we interview Kelly Ryall.

What is your involvement with KAGE?

I am working with KAGE as a composer for their show SUNDOWNER. This
is my work for them.

What is your favourite thing about working with KAGE?

The combination of dance and theatre is perfect for composing music,
allowing both text and movement to inform the sound.

What would you make K A G E stand for?

Well I presume it stands for KAte and GErard and try as I might, I
cannot find anything else.

(It's okay Kelly as your presumption is right on the money!)
