Default Home Hill Campdraft was on again for another year

After almost 30 years, the Home Hill Campdraft returned to Tudehope's, Landers Creek Station.

The committee put in many weekends getting everything ready for the two day event, which included building new shower and toilet blocks and getting water to the camping area.

The week before, many people helped walk cattle kindly donated by Richard and Dianne Hughes of Strathalbyn Station across the Burdekin River near Milaroo, before they were trucked the rest of the way to the draft.

Winners for the weekend were:

Junior draft, Tom Watts on Dolly, and juvenile draft, Hayden Deboni on Winchester.

Encouragement draft, John Woodward on Jackson, and ladies draft, Carol Wyper on Harvey Walter's Dual & Spin. Carol won the last ladies draft held at Landers Creek 30 years ago.

Maiden draft, Adrian Loader on Cascade, novice draft, Matt Stanger on Quick Step, and open draft, Harvey Walters on Dual & Spin.

The weekend was deemed a great success in all aspects, from drafting, to catering by the Milaroo PC, entertainment and good country atmosphere.

The children were kept busy with horse sports both Saturday and Sunday with many ribbons and prizes given out to all. They enjoyed a helicopter lolly drop on Saturday afternoon thanks to Kelly Forster.

On Saturday night, it was time for the big kids to have some fun with the Calcutta for the open draft along with an auction, which was made possible thanks to some generous sponsors.

The committee is planning for a bigger and better event next year and wishes to thank all the sponsors that made the campdraft a great success.

It would also like to thank Strathalbyn manager Greg Hoare, judges Darren Gilliam, Adrian Loader and George Burrell, and the men in the back yard and on the gates for all their efforts.
