The North QLD Soaring Centre members who live all over North Queensland and fly at Charters Towers, rely on good weather for our operations. What we need is real time weather data so we can see what the weather is like before we travel to Charters Towers. Real-time weather data is not available for Charters Towers at present only delayed data.
We plan to install a weather station in Charters Towers that will provide a data stream such as can be seen here (http://users.tpg.com.au/adsl7ytk/weather/wdl/index.html) and here (http://users.tpg.com.au/adsl7ytk/weather/Deeragun.html). There will also be a camera showing a view of the sky.
This weather data would be available to anyone logging on to the site, and would be a valuable asset, not just to glider pilots, but to all of the people of Charters Towers.
We already have a host site, and internet connection kindly offered by a local business.
What we need
A Davis Wireless Vantage Pro II weather station ca $1700
A weather proof web cam ca $800.
We are looking for local business to donate towards these. Donations of $500 or more will receive a banner advert on the final weather page.
