PARENTS will be given free software that prevents their children viewing internet pornography and other offensive material on home computers under a $117 million commonwealth crackdown on cyber smut.
The three-year National Filter Scheme, announced by Communications Minister Helen Coonan yesterday, will also include the rollout of "child-friendly" filtering programs to all internet terminals in libraries across Australia.
The filter software will be able to be downloaded from internet service providers' websites or posted out as a CD to parents who call a 1800 hotline.
