The reason why nothing concrete has been done to find a solution to the bat problem in Charters Towers is that it has become a political football.
There are people who are using the issue to further their own political aspirations. Indeed there is one politician who owes his job to the fact that there are bats in Charters Towers.
What is needed is a bi-partisan approach. Our local representatives of the three tiers of government (local, state and federal) regardless of their political affiliation must work with the state and federal governments of the day as well as with the local community to find sensible balanced ways to deal with the problem. Only then can we come up with a reasonable solution everyone can live with.
So lets take the political grandstanding and pointscoring out of the issue and replace them with co-operation and a genuine desire to find solutions.
