I think that any Charters Towers resident who uses Lissner Park or the surrounding facilities would have a good case if they wanted to take legal action against those who initiated the bat problem.
We all know the effects that chain clearing has on the land but seldom do we think of the far-reaching consequences it may have on the surrounding areas. The Pandora’s box that was opened when the flying foxes lost their natural habitat has affected us all. In six years we have seen a community torn over this problem and an environmental disaster on our hands.
I suggest greater accountability measures be enforced in the future on those who lack the foresight to think about the wider effects of what they do.
