Extracts from the report dated June 2010.
Our land, Our Sea Roundtable:
On Tuesday 27th April 2010 Bob convened a round table at Mount Uncle Distillery, Walkamin involving Aboriginal leaders, primary industries, scientists, local government, business, farmers, fisherman and community thinkers...
Roundtable Outcomes:
Legislation - On 11th May 2010 Bob gave Notice to Parliament of his intention to present the Constitutional Alteration (Just Terms) Bill 2010. This Bill provides that property rights can only be acquired or restricted by government after the provision of compensation on just terms...
Battling Against Imports:
In February, it was announced that the government would allow in beef from countries with a history of mad caw disease. Immediately, Bob questioned Parliament. To his shock this decision was defended by the Minister for Trade not the Ministers who represent health, agriculture or biosecurity. Bob's questioning why the Trade Minister was defending a quarantine decision had him thrown out of the House!!! But that was not the end... After protest the decision was reversed pending further assessment.
Youth Forums:
In April, we held the first of what is hoped to be a series of youth forums across Kennedy. Mount Isa Youth Forum involved youth workers considering housing, recreation, reengagement with society, mentoring and growth and development opportunities. Outcomes will feed into the Kennedy 2010, 2011 Strategy Plan. Please contact his office if you want to be involved.
Daylight Savings:
As a distraction from their towering incompetence, Captain Bligh recently reopened the debate for daylight savings. If ever any further acknowledgment was needed of the lack of consideration given to the rest of the state - then this was it. An enraged Bob spoke pointedly on TV:"If they want another state then TA TAR. They can have their Brisbane based bureaucrats, We'll keep the wealth generated by mining, agriculture and tourism."
2010, 2011 Budget:
The 2010/11 Budget was a mixed bag. The $652m Renewable Energy Future Fund and the $5.5b Clean Energy Initiative dramatically strengthebed the case for the Northern Australia Clean Energy Corridor. However, the new 40% Resource Tax will destroy the Australian mining industry and the wealth generated by the thousands of mum's and dad's who provide the workforce for the industry...
...from the Reef to the Gulf to the Outback.
Bob asks "How can we help you?"
