A North Queensland grazier "Roger Landsberg", has won the 2009 Landcare Australia Primary Producer of the Year award.
Roger Landsberg, of Trafalgar Station near Charters Towers, was recognised for developing management practices that have resulted in more sustainable cattle production.
He says the practice change he has implemented has had environmental benefits, has improved returns, and should satisfy criteria for the reef regulation legislation.
"But as we've gone along, we are finding that with conservative stocking, spelling, and more intensive herd management, there are costs associated with that, but the actual returns are higher," he says.
"It's actually really paying off."
