Hello Barry, i am not sure about the water levels where you are asking in your question. I have heard good things about the Burdekin Dam and Barra.
I did find the contact info for the Local Charters Towers Fish Stocking group.
Postal: 36 Rutherford Lane Charters Towers 4829 Queensland
Phone: 07 4787 7623
Contact: Rod Miller.
Also, found on the web "Ausfish Australian Angling Forums" a person from Charters Towers talking about fishing at the Burdekin Dam, 80 km further on from Ravenswood.
Re: Burdeken Dam
Tim I havn't been to Burdekin Dam for many years but it has barra, sooties, yellowbelly(escapees from property dams flooded when the dam was built). Also catfish & redclaw. There is a ramp. This is the biggest dam in Qld so there is a lot of water between fish also lots of drownded timber and other structure for fish to hide.Hope this helps.DB
Re: Burdeken Dam
Tim,
I am in Charters Towers and can confirm that there are Barra, Sooty, Perch, Catfish, Sleepy Cod, Yellowbelly and crocs in Burdekin Dam. There are also a few Jungle Perch but rare as rocking horse s.... There is a hell of alot of water mixed in with them though. Better off fishing the Burdekin River. There is a good boat ramp there and, you need an impoundment permit to fish there.
Hope this helps.
K.
