Hello carole, welcome to the Charters-Towers.com forum.

For information on historical relatives, one could contact the Charters Towers and Dalrymple Family History Association. As the person in question was in Charters Towers before the 1900's, they could help provide information on the name you are researching.

Deceased/historical relatives:

1) Charters Towers and Dalrymple Family History Association PO BOX 783 Charters Towers has a wide variety of resources including Qld Births to 1919, marriages to 1945 and deaths to 1964, some Charters Towers school rolls, early electoral rolls, cemetery records, mining acccident reports and microfilm copies of newspapers 1872 - 1995 (not indexed). They have an upfront fee of $20.00 for research

2) The Charters Towers and Dalrymple Archives Group PO BOX 1224 Charters Towers Qld 4820 have a collection of historical items - photographs, books, maps, housing information, mining reports, maps which can include family history information. They will search their collection and then require payment for copies and a small donation to cover their time.

We hope this has been of help.
K.
